About Rising Star

Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, located in Tucson, Arizona, was founded on December 1, 1976.
Our Vision: “A Local Church with a Global Reach.”

We are a church where everyone is welcome and one of Tucson’s largest predominantly Black congregations. Over the past 48 years, Rising Star has been marked by growing membership and expanding ministries. Currently, Rising Star has over 1,000 members and 50 ministries addressing the needs of our members and the community.

 

Position Opening: Senior Pastor

 

Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church is seeking a spiritual leader who has been called by God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ; to feed the flock of God and oversee the ministries of the church; to serve as teacher and shepherd of the congregation and as the administrator of church operations.

The Church desires a pastor who will rely on the Holy Spirit and lead by following Jesus’ principles, commands, and statutes, as described in
I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
We seek a pastor who will lead by example through Christ-like character, personal integrity, and individual discipleship.


Job Requirements

Position: Full-Time Senior Pastor

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for the church.

  • Preach and teach the Word of God, ensuring the church matures in Christ.

  • Be friendly, kind, loving, and approachable to the congregation.

  • Develop and support outreach programs that engage the community, youth, and families.

  • Be available full-time (24/7) with set office hours.

  • Direct plans for church growth and ministry development, including completion of the Amazing Star Family Life Center.

  • Lead and encourage programs for visiting the sick and shut-in.

  • Provide guidance for the Youth and Young Adult (CREW) Ministries.

  • Conduct counseling sessions, funerals, worship services, and other church activities.

  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate church programs in conjunction with Deacons, Ministers, and other leaders.

  • Continue relationships with international ministries (e.g., Africa and India).

  • Represent the church in community and civic engagement.

  • Supervise both paid and volunteer ministry staff.

  • Facilitate leadership training for discipleship and ministry.

  • Moderate church business meetings (or designate a church officer).

  • Embrace diversity among the congregation.

  • Advocate for social justice for all.

Qualifications

  • Clear understanding of Baptist Doctrine and ability to teach sound doctrine.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of pastoral experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Biblical Studies, or related field required.

  • Master of Divinity, Theology, or Biblical Studies preferred.

  • Must be licensed and ordained as a Baptist minister (or equivalent ordination aligned with 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9).

  • Ability to plan and conduct worship services, leadership programs, and conferences.

  • Able to articulate a vision emphasizing spiritual growth and Christian education.

  • Proficient in written and oral communication.

  • Strong leadership, managerial, and administrative abilities.

  • Proven record of community and mission involvement, including international ministry connections.

  • Knowledgeable in technology use.

  • Committed to church growth and membership retention.

  • Willingness to attend, support, and encourage participation in local, state, and national conventions for religious education and ministry development.
