Here’s what you can expect from Rising Star.

Everyone needs three things... a look, a word, and a touch!
 

A Look:  Smiling faces, laughing children, excited worshippers, and engaging messages are what you’ll see and experience when you look at the faces of the members of Rising Star. Regardless of your background, we want you to feel at home.

A Word: There is nothing like saying “hello” to the person sitting next to you in service. Sometimes we are so busy with our daily lives we don’t know the people we worship with. That’s why you’ll always hear a friendly greeting when you come into service.

A Touch: There is nothing like a friendly hug after a long week. Sometimes all a person needs to put them back on the right track is a hug or a touch of the hand during prayer. At Rising Star, you’ll feel the love of Jesus Christ. At Rising Star, you’ll find people who look forward to your visit. We believe that worship is an important ingredient in life and you’ll find our worship experience exciting and relevant.

What to expect when you arrive?

  • There are three driveway entrances, from the North, East and West. Parking lot attendants will help you find a space that meets your needs. We also have special parking for our first-time visitors right up front. Once you enter the foyer, you will find friendly greeters to assist you with directions to the nursery, sanctuary and restrooms. K.I.D.S. Church is open to children between 5-and-11-years-old. It is now held across the street at the Boys and Girls Club. Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to drop children off prior to arriving at the main building. Children are not admitted to K.I.D.S. Church after 10:30 a.m.

Where should I take my children?
  • We believe people of all ages need an exciting church home. So, Rising Star has a special service for children and youth beginning at 10:00 a.m. K.I.D.S.' Church or "Kids in Divine Service" is geared toward children between the ages of 5-11-years-old. Our K.I.D.S.' Church Director, teachers and assistant teachers are here to make the Bible plain for our youngest members and friends. Lesson plans are easy to understand and there is always a take home. K.I.D.S. Church is now held across the street at the Boys and Girls Club.
  • Our nursery and toddler rooms are open during 10:00 a.m. service as well as on Wednesday evening Bible Study for infants and children up to 5-years-old. Our toddler and nursery workers are trained in all areas of infant and toddler care.

What is the service like?

  • Although Rising Star is predominantly African-American, we welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures and religions.

  • There is no dress code expectation. However, attendees tend to wear more traditional clothing or relaxed wear. Jeans are always welcome because we want you to "come as you are."

  • You will be greeted by an usher who will assist you in finding a seat. The worship service is contemporary in style with a mix of tradition and non-traditional elements. Services last 90-minutes and you will be surprised how fast time flies once you enter the presence of God through praise and worship.

  • Our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Amos L. Lewis, always provides sermon notes for you to follow along during his inspirational message and encourages you to purchase a copy of the sermon in the bookstore or subscribe to the podcast via iTunes.

  • In order to assist those new to the church we have an incredible media ministry that includes screen presentations during praise and worship, announcements and the sermon.

What about after the service?

  • If you would like to meet with a prayer team member, please come forward during invitation. During that time, ministers and prayer warriors can pray with you. You can also join Rising Star at this time.

  • After service, we give everyone the opportunity to meet Pastor and Sister Lewis.

  • We also have a bookstore with items including sermon CD's, resources, Bibles, children's items, music CD's and other items.

Membership

  • There are four simple ways to join our family: Christian Experience, Candidate for Baptism, Re-Dedication or WatchCare

  • You can join at any time, so don't worry if you miss invitation.

  • Contact the church office at 520-791-3068 to get membership information and to sign-up for new member classes.
